Mrs. Melinda S. Bacchus-Maynard was born in Nassau on 13th August 1977.  She attended boarding school at Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, Canada after which she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (and Minor in Marketing and Sociology) from Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida in May 1998.  Following that she read law in the accelerated two-year program at the University of Leeds in Leeds, England where she obtained her LLB Hons degree in June 2000.  She then attended BBP Law School in London, England where she successfully passed the Bar Examinations and achieved a Very Competent certification in the Bar Vocational Course in July 2001.

Melinda was called to the Bar of England and Wales and The Bahamas Bar in July and September  respectively 2001 and is in good standing with The Bahamas Bar Association.  She worked as an attorney at Higgs & Johnson (2001 – 2002), Lennox Paton (2002 – 2006), and Glinton Sweeting & O’Brien (2006 – 2018), prior to joining our firm in September 2018, where she became a Partner in March 2019 and currently heads the firm’s Conveyancing and Real Property Department. 

For the past 9 years, Melinda has been on the Board of Directors of Hands for Hunger, for the past 8 years on the Board of Directors at POPOP Center for the Visual Arts, and prior to that she served on the Heart Ball Committee of the Heart Foundation of The Bahamas for 2 years and a Member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) Organizing Committee for CLA 2022.  She is also currently an Officer of the Nassau Festival of Arts and Culture.  Melinda’s contacts at the firm are tel: 242 325 5335/9 and e-mail: melinda.maynard@maynardlaw.com.

Melinda has been featured and/or contributed to publications in The Bahamas Investor, The Nassau Guardian, and World Bank Group and has moderated the firm’s Arbitration and Investment Caribbean Latin America and Other Emerging Markets from 2019 to 2023.

Melinda is a knowledgeable and respected attorney whose principal areas of practice include residential and commercial property financing and acquisition, corporate, immigration, probate, maritime, aviation, and foreign direct investment. 

In her spare time, Melinda is a regular attendee of Bahamian Art Exhibitions and is an avid Bahamian Art collector and supporter of Bahamian Artists.  She also enjoys entertaining at home, traveling, cooking, interior design, and peloton/gym training.
